There are numerous gasses used for breathing in diving. Normal air is a combination of Oxygen & Nitrogen (21% O2 / 79% N). There are various reasons why nitrogen is undesirable under a high partial pressure. It is for this reason that various alternative ‘inert’ gases are used as a replacement, these include Helium and Hydrogen.
